University of Kansas

It’s come to the point where I am just simply going to have to drop a class.  That class is Art History.  I do realize of course that this means I won’t be graduating this May.  If I’m lucky, I can get a Humanities class (or whatever one the Art History class is that full fills for my Creative Writing Major).  Am I upset about this?  Of course I am.  But the way my brain works, it can’t keep up with the level I should be at.  On my last test, I didn’t think I did super great but I thought I at least did better than my 1st exam.  As it turned out, I did about 5-10% worse.  The only way I could possibly hope to study for the exams in that class would be if they were open note.  In dropping the class now, I can get by with a W for the class and I can improve in my Rhetorical Traditions class.
(By the way, I just had to go back and add an ebecause I originally said I can improv in my Rhetorical Traditions class…if only)

Speaking of improv, I want more improv during the week…even if I’m not involved and just an audience member.  It’s all on the weekend for me and by the time Monday and Tuesday roll around, I get all depressed/angry/irritable/fill in the blank.

Other news, I went to the doctor today for my wrist which has been hurting like (choose your own euphemism here) and as it turns out, I’ve got a slight tendinitis.  So the doctor decided to give me some Celebrex.  He was about to prescribe me something but I asked if it would cause my ulcer to flare up (I’ve had 3 bleeding ulcers between Oct. 30th 2004 and Easter Day 2006 and would like to avoid that risk…which includes leaving out foods that have a hint of spice, pepper, acid, and drinks that contain caffeine or alcohol).  He decided to go with the Celebrex to be on the safe side saying it wouldn’t do that…but the label on there says it has that potential…but apparently if taken too long.  Hopefully, my wrist heals up quickly.

Anyway, I’ll see in time how things work out.

Hey everyone, I’m back.  I’ve been told that if I update this, people would check it out.

Anyway, I’ve been doing my Improv at The Roving Imp in Bonner Springs, Kansas.  I missed the show in December I was supposed to be in because I was sick.  But January I was able to be in it.  Also in January, John who owns the Roving Imp came up with a new group of shows called Improv Survivor.  After seeing the show in January, I got cased in the Improv Survivor for February and March.  Also in February and March, I had the class show and both days, it snowed the day OF the show both months.  Of course, in February, the snow ended by about 12:15pm.  This last Saturday, it began to snow around that time.
(wait a minute, it’s Spring now!  What the heck!)
Good news, the show went on.  We only had 3 audiance members but it worked.  It continued on with Omega Directive.  This is a group that has a show from 9-10:30/45 aprox.  The first one involves someone iPod/mp3 Player.  The second part involves the plots of 2 original series Star Trek episode thrown into story line.

Anyway, this coming Saturday is the 2 year anniversary.  This year, the show is based off of the Indiana Jones movies.  The show this Saturday is called Raiders of the Lost Imp.  The following Friday is Kingdom of the Crystal Imp.  I’m in the one on this coming Saturday.  We have some new short form games called The God of Kali Ma (or just Kali Ma, I don’t remember).  This is based off of Temple of Doom with the cult somehow involving Hindu.  The game is, if you’re given a liquid (suggested by the audience) you become evil.  If you’re given something that causes pain (also from the audience) you become good.  The other game is Last Crusade.  In the game, you’re trying to find an ancient object and you’re looking for clues on how to find the object.  Finally, we’re doing a long form game called “Prequel”.  The idea of Prequel is that we start a story at chapter 10.  We continue on to Chapter 20 or so.  Then, we go back to chapter 1 and lead up to chapter 10.
Don’t quite understand what I’m talking about?  You’ll have to come to the Roving Imp at 115 Oak St. in Bonner Springs, Kansas this Saturday April 4th at 7pm.

Beyond that, I had my Spring Break 2 weeks ago in which I got the doors on my car electric locks.  Now I can unlock it with a remote keyless entry device.  Also, the Sunday at the beginning of Spring Break, my family and I went to the New Theatre Restaurant and saw a show that was a piece of crap called HATS that was supposed to be special because it had a woman from Three’s Company.  HATS, I thought, could suck it because the main charicter in the story, her conflict was that she was going to be 50 in a little over an hour…oh poor her.  Her mother and mother’s friends try to get her to join the Red Hat Society and telling about stuff that they’ve put up with in their life…and they only talked about it…they couldn’t show it, they just talked about it.  I very desperately wanted to shout out “SHOW ME THAT!  Anyway, the show sucked a lot.  The following Sunday, we went to Metcalf South (wish it were a) Mall to see the Martin City Meladrama and Valdville Company @ Metcalf South Mall show.  It was called Valdville Vixins and was way better.

Okay, and that said, I have a month and a half left before graduation from KU and I’m hoping to not get sick anymore and not miss anymore because I’ve already reached my limit in most of my classes.

I will be updating this more often than I have been.

So, Thursday, August 21st, I started my last year (hopefully) at KU.  I’m taking Playwriting 1, Prehistoric Life: DNA – Dinosuars, and Earthquakes and Natural Disasters.  Playwriting will be my second to last creative writing course.  Of all the creative writing courses I’ve taken, this one seems like it’s going to be the most hard core.  Prehistoric Life…I needed a biological science and this one doesn’t have a lab.  Earthquakes and Natural Disasters is in the largest auditorium class…seating 900 students.  I sit way up in the nosebleed section because it’s easier than looking up and down constantly between the notes on the screen and the notes that I attempt to take that don’t even come out very well because of the speed that the teacher insist on going.  Anyway, those are the classes.

I had my first improv performance on Saturday Aug. 23rd.  It went very well.  We performed a Chicago style Harold.  This is one with an opener, 3 scenes (1,2,3) based upon something from the opener, a group game, 3 more scenes related to scenes 1, 2 and 3 respectively of the first group.  Then another group game, then a finale of the 3 scenes.  The suggestion, made by a friend of mine, was pancake.  Then, 3 of us (I was one of them) started off by giving a quick monologue.  So the 3 of us gave a monologue based around pancakes.  Then, there was the first scene and so on.  I was able to invite the most friends…I needed to invite 6 to come and I wound up with 11!  And one of them was my older 1/2 sister who I recently got in contact with but met for the first time that night.

By the way, I can’t wait until I get to do more improv.

Hello everyone who happens to come across my site.  I have a few things I’d like to mention.

My main computer that I use doesn’t let me open up the catagory list.  So I’m on another computer that does let me do so.  So I’m going to try and use all the catagories in one list here to get them to be able to appear.

I got 2 albums a couple of weeks ago.  They were Warren Zevon albums: Bad Luck Streak In Dancing School, and Sentimental Hygiene.  By the way, if you haven’t been able to tell yet, I’m a huge Warren Zevon fan.

Speaking of Warren Zevon, I’ve been reading his biography, the one by his ex-wife.  I’m a slow reader…but I enjoy it.

Between late December of last year and early June of this year, I was writing a story called Matthew of the IHOP Restroom.  This guy goes to IHOP at 3:30am and goes to the restroom but in stead of going into the restroom, he enters a poratl to the 18th Demension.  The general idea was in response to having read the book STARDUST after having seen the movie about 3 or 4 times.  Anyway, I’ve started writing a spin-off called Dan of a Bank on Metcalf.  Dan was a friend of Matthew who happens to be a loveable idiot…but he’s kind of a pervert when he’s drunk.  If you are interested in reading any of these stories, you can visit my myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/classic_rockaholic

Bruce Springsteen is still coming to town and I still don’t have tickets.  But whatever.  The day before, which is this coming Saturday, I will be performing in my first live improv show.  The place is called The Roving Imp.  It’s in Bonner Springs.  I will be performing a Chicago style Harold with a group of fellow improvers.  I’ve been taking the workshops there at the Roving Imp for about a month now and having the time of my life!

I finally got the licence plate for my Chevy Aveo this last Tuesday.  Good thing to.  The 30-day experation tag was up on Wednesday.  But I got the letter in the mail this week that I have to pay car tax…on my old car that I had to get rid of because of the hail storm.  Now I have to let the state know that I now own the Chevy Aveo.  But also this week, I’ll be going back up to KU for my last full year of classes.  I will be a graduate of the Unversity of Kansas (hopefully) by May ‘09…To give you some idea, I’ve been going to college since Aug. ‘02.  I’m ready to be out.

I found out a week ago that I have an older 1/2 sister.  I mean, I knew that I had 2 older half sisters but it was one of those things that I stuck in the back of my mind.  I’m an only child and I’ve been an only child for 25 years and almost 2 months.  Now, not just do I have sisters, but I’ve also been an uncle for the past 17 years.

I saw Mummy 3 this last Monday and really enjoied it.  I want to go see Tropic Thunder.  I made a comment in my workshop that I already know that Jack Black’s charicter would be the most like me.  They suggested I should see the movie first to make sure the charicter who is most like me ISN’T a rapist.  So, hopefully, he’s not.  I just assumed because I see a lot of myself in a lot of other Jack Black charicters.  But anyway…

Yeah, so this is an update.  I’m sorry if anyone comes along and reads this and thinks I tried to type the most I’ve ever typed for the sole purpose of having more people come to my site.  That is not my intention at all.  I just wanted to make sure I could use all my catagories in one post.

Hello everyone who comes to this site!  I literally just started using wordpress within the last 12 hours.  This is going to be my first real blog.  I came here from xanga because you have to be a member to leave a comment.  I found out recently that you don’t have to be a member here to leave a comment.  So please, if you read this, please leave some kind of comment…

I’m a KU Jayhawk with one more year to go before I graduate.  This June, I’ve been taking Soc 304 at the Edward’s Campus.  Wednesday night (6-25…I guess that will be tonight) is my last class (though I’ve got a 6-page paper due Friday I’ll have to e-mail to the teacher by 5pm at the absolute latest).
Anyway, here’s the issue.  All the vending machines that dispense a beverage of some kind (water, soda, energy drink…) all serve plastic bottles.  Now, the Edward’s Campus does have places to recycle your used beverage container…provided that it was a in a soda can.  You can’t get any soda cans at all on campus.  The only thing you can get are bottles but there is no place to recycle the plastics…ONLY aluminum cans!  That’s it!
Am I the only one who sees a problem with this?
